SoloRunClub xx was developed by founder Melanie Caple in 2025 in Naarm (Melbourne).

As a lifelong solo runner, I became increasingly aware of the safety concerns preventing many people from going for a run on their own—at a time and place that suits them.

I didn’t want to join a running club, and I didn’t want to rely on being tracked step-by-step by a partner or friend just in case something went wrong. What I wanted was simple: the freedom and independence of running solo, with a safety net there if I ever needed it.

But no existing app truly catered to solo runners. So I wanted to create one.

SoloRunClubxx is designed for people who want to move independently, feel supported, and connect with a like-minded community—without sacrificing privacy. It’s not about competition or performance metrics. It’s about confidence, autonomy, and knowing you’re not alone, even when you choose to be.

An app that empowers those who might otherwise feel too vulnerable to go solo—and gives them the confidence to do so.

SoloRunClub xx offers both privacy and connection, combining the freedom of solo exercise with built-in safety measures—so if something doesn’t go to plan, support is already in place.

While it may not leave physical marks, technology-facilitated abuse can be extensive and cause enduring harm. It may also serve as a red flag for future catastrophic physical violence.

Experts warn no matter what safety precautions are adopted, no device that involves a tracking function should be considered absolutely safe.

Perfect for:

  • Women of all ages who may feel unsafe exercising alone

  • Anyone who feels vulnerable on their own but values having a support system in place

  • Older adults, or those recovering from illness or injury

  • People who value privacy and independence in how they move

  • Those looking to rebuild confidence at their own pace

  • Solo exercisers who enjoy their own space, but still want to feel part of a broader community

I love running when and where the impulse takes me—which can sometimes mean heading out at dusk on isolated rail trails. I used to message my sister before and after every run, just so she knew I was safe. I’d always sign off with ‘xx’, almost like a quiet signal to say I was okay—that’s where the name SoloRunClub xx comes from.

Now, she doesn’t even need to know when I’ve gone for a run. She knows that if something goes wrong, she’ll be notified. If I don’t check out at the end of my session, my emergency contact will automatically receive my location so they can get help if needed.
